Since the early 1990s, Albert and Shirley Schmidt have been extraordinary philanthropists, dedicated to improving the lives of kids living in Northeast Wisconsin. We are profoundly grateful for their long-standing commitment to Children’s Wisconsin. Their contributions have sustained vital services in our Child Advocacy Centers statewide, including mental health services in the Fox Valley Child Advocacy Center. In June 2026, this center was renamed the Albert and Schmidt Fox Valley Child Advocacy Center. Albert and Shirley also supported the Fox Valley NICU renovation, named after their grandson Will Patrick Gauthier — who received life-saving care at Children’s Wisconsin as a newborn — and research to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
Their kindness also supports events in the Northeast to raise funds for Children’s Wisconsin, including Gather for Good, the Children’s Wisconsin Open and Santa Cycle. Every dollar raised stays in the region, creating access to nationally ranked pediatric services and bringing care closer to home; this means families don’t have to travel far for the care their children deserve.

And, in honor of Shirley’s enduring affection for Mickey Mouse, Albert and Shirley made a gift to ensure Mickey’s birthday is celebrated annually, creating magical moments for kids in the Milwaukee and Fox Valley hospitals, as well as the Appleton and Ashwaubenon clinics.
“Kids trust us to take care of them.” These simple words, expressed by Albert and Shirley, reflect their unwavering dedication to the well-being of children and families. That commitment lives on through an estate gift to Children’s Wisconsin, helping ensure children can count on exceptional care long into the future. Albert and Shirley — who passed away in 2025 — have created a legacy of healing that will live on for generations.
